What is the RAA Verification process? – Knowledgebase

RAA Verification process

As of January 1, 2014, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has mandated that all ICANN accredited registrars begin verifying the WHOIS contact information for all new domain registrations and Registrant contact modifications.

The RAA Verification is triggered under 2 conditions:

  • New Domain name registration.
  • The Registrant contact information is updated

When the Registrant contact is updated, the RAA email is sent to the NEW email address. The changes will not be reflected on the domain name until the RAA email is verified.

An exception is made if the email address on the contact information has already been previously verified.

Once the RAA Verification process has started, the Registrant has 15 days to verify the information before the domain name is suspended.

The RAA (Registrar Accreditation Agreement) verification process refers to the process by which registrars accredited by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) are periodically reviewed to ensure they are complying with the terms of the RAA. The RAA is a contract between ICANN and domain name registrars, outlining the obligations and responsibilities of registrars in managing domain names.

The RAA verification process typically involves ICANN conducting audits and reviews of registrar operations to ensure compliance with various aspects of the RAA, such as:

  1. Financial and operational stability: Ensuring that registrars have the necessary financial and operational resources to effectively manage domain registrations and provide customer support.
  2. Compliance with ICANN policies: Verifying that registrars are adhering to ICANN policies regarding domain registration, transfer, and management, including WHOIS data accuracy requirements.
  3. Data privacy and security: Ensuring that registrars are implementing appropriate measures to protect the privacy and security of domain registrants’ data in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  4. Customer service and support: Assessing the quality and responsiveness of registrar customer service and support channels to ensure that domain registrants can easily access assistance when needed.

If a registrar is found to be non-compliant during the verification process, ICANN may take various actions, including imposing penalties, issuing warnings, or suspending or terminating the registrar’s accreditation. The verification process helps maintain the integrity and stability of the domain name system by holding registrars accountable for their obligations under the RAA.
