How to setup spam filter in cpanel

The Spam Filters option in cPanel, formerly known as Spam Assassin, gives you the option to configure the spam filter settings (powered by Apache SpamAssassin™) for your account. Spam filters identify and sort or delete unsolicited email, commonly known as spam. You can also use this interface to configure your whitelist and blacklist settings.

In this Knowledge Base article, we will cover the settings and configuration of the Spam Filters options.

Log in to cPanel:

Access your cPanel account by navigating to yourdomain.com/cpanel and logging in with your credentials.

In the cPanel dashboard, find the “Email” section and click on “Spam Filters”

After enabling spam filter, you can configure its settings to setup spam filter in cpanel:

Auto-Delete Spam: You can enable auto-deletion of spam by toggling the “Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete)” option. This will delete emails that exceed a certain spam score threshold.

Move Spam to a Separate Folder: Instead of deleting spam, you can move it to a separate folder (usually named “spam” or “junk”) by enabling the “Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box)” option.

Additional Configurations: You can access advanced settings and customize the filtering rules further by clicking on the “Configure SpamAssassin” button.

Edit Additional Configuration:

If you need to fine-tune the settings, you can manually edit the spam filterconfiguration file. This is usually done by clicking on “Additional Configurations”

Whitelist and Blacklist:

You can manage whitelisted and blacklisted email addresses or domains to fine-tune spam filtering. Whitelisted addresses will always be allowed, while blacklisted ones will always be marked as spam.

Click on the “Edit spam settings” link to access these options.

Save Changes:

After making your desired changes, ensure you save the configurations by clicking on the “Save” button or equivalent option.

Test the Spam Filter:

Send a few test emails to see if the spam filter is working as expected. You can adjust the setup spam filter in cpanel if needed based on the results.
